The omission at the funeral of the Judge of the Generation, Zt"l • New initiative on the 'Petition' website: A resident of the city of Beitar Illit opened a new petition this morning (Wednesday) demanding the establishment of a 'state investigation committee into the funeral disaster in Bnei Brak.'.
The petition's address states: "On the evening of Passover, a mass funeral was held in Bnei Brak for the late Posk Hador Rabbi Wasner. During the funeral, Moti Gerber, 27, and Yitzhak Samet, 18, were crushed to death, who was critically injured and died two days later. In addition, dozens were injured, including some seriously.".
According to the petition's drafter, "The failure cries out to heaven, but since it concerns Haredim and Bnei Brak, no one is demanding their blood.".
The petition initiator calls: "Israelis, wake up! This could happen to all of us at any mass event!!!
""We demand a state investigation committee to investigate who is responsible for the omission, and most importantly, formulate binding recommendations to prevent the recurrence of such cases in the future!!""
The initiator mentions previous disasters that occurred in Israel and states: "The blood of the late Gerber and Smet and the injured is no less than the blood of those crushed at the Arad Festival and the Maccabiah disaster!!!".
It should be noted that so far, the voices of the ultra-Orthodox members of Knesset, as well as the mayors of Bnei Brak, have not been heard publicly in the affair - and they are all maintaining a media silence.
At this point, all entities associated with the funeral, as well as local authorities and authorized entities, disclaim responsibility.
The police investigation, conducted by the Tel Aviv District Fraud Division, is ongoing. So far, several members of the management of the 'Chachmei Lublin' yeshiva and the Wasner family have been questioned. It is not yet clear whether police officers who were inside the yeshiva building and Dan Region commanders have also been questioned.
However, the meeting clarified in a statement they issued this morning: "We reiterate and emphasize that the funeral procession was planned and organized by the professional authorities and we acted according to all their instructions. We have been and will continue to be in regular contact with the broken families and with all authorized authorities.".
