The State of Israel celebrates 66 - and now the data: Israel's population is 8.180 million people. This is an increase of 157 thousand people compared to last year. The Central Bureau of Statistics announced today (Thursday).

The total Jewish population in the country is approximately 6.135 million, constituting approximately 751% of the total population. The Arab population is 1.694 million, constituting 201% of the total population. The remaining residents are made up of groups of non-Arab Christians, members of other religions, or people without religion. The total of these groups amounts to 351 thousand people and they constitute 41% of the population.

It is interesting to note that in November 1948, at the end of the War of Independence and in advance of the elections for the Constituent Assembly, the first population census was conducted in the State of Israel. At that time, Israel's population numbered approximately 800,000 residents.

In other words, Israel's population has grown tenfold since then. Today, 751% of the country's citizens are native-born, compared to only 351% in the early days of the state.

The CBS is also required to provide the number of births and separate deaths that occurred this year: in the last twelve months, 178,000 babies were born, and about 42,000 people passed away. 24,000 Jews immigrated to Israel and became part of its citizens.
