Neil Armstrong died two years ago, but his name is making headlines again when his widow found a bag in a closet in her home containing items that Armstrong used during the historic Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, News 2 reports.

The woman, Carol Armstrong, transferred the case to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, where the objects will be preserved and displayed to the public.

An examination conducted by experts indicates that the bag did indeed 'participate' in the Apollo 11 flight to the moon, and the objects inside were supposed to remain on the lunar surface, but Armstrong returned it to Earth and kept it all these years.

The bag contained the camera that recorded the landing and the famous flag raising. The bag also contained an electrical cord, a light bulb, and a mirror.

The first human landing on the moon occurred on July 24, 1969. The Apollo 11 spacecraft was launched to the moon on the 16th of the month, and after entering orbit around the Earth, the command module and lander, which contained Armstrong and another astronaut named Edwin Aldrin, were separated from the mother spacecraft, and the two made history when they became the first people to set foot on the moon.

Armstrong is remembered for the famous phrase he uttered upon setting foot on the moon: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.".
