Stephen Robinson sued the city of Newcastle, a city in northeastern England, for a broken ankle, which he claimed was caused by slipping on a burst drain pipe.
Robinson's claim was accepted, and 17,000 pounds sterling (about 100,000 shekels) was already on its way to him, after the relevant insurance company got involved.
But then, two years and days after the lawsuit, Robinson suddenly became a defendant.
A video was uploaded to YouTube showing Stephen jumping into a large puddle of water in front of a large audience, with the video clearly showing that his leg was broken as a result of the unsuccessful jump.
The video was viewed by thousands of people, and it quickly reached city officials. Robinson's family member tried to remove the video from the network, but was unsuccessful.
Robinson was summoned to a hearing, and in addition to a hefty fine of £600, he was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.
Robinson's cousin said that the incident hit him hard and that he was, she said, "not the same person he was.".
Councillor Veronica Dunne told the Daily Mail: "I am delighted with the outcome of this case. Stephen Robinson attempted to defraud the council and council tax payers in the most despicable way.
""We investigate all suspected false claims, and on this occasion we received an invaluable tip from citizens who saw the video on YouTube.
""It cost him dearly, and I hope this sends a clear message that Newcastle City Council will not hesitate to involve the police, and prosecute anyone who attempts to defraud the public purse by making fraudulent insurance claims.".
