This evening, the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Shlomo Amar, delivered a halachic lesson at the Borochov synagogue in the Bukharim neighborhood of Jerusalem. This was the first time, in place of the head of the Beit Midrash, Chazon Yaakov, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef, who used to deliver lessons there for many years, on Thursdays, and who passed away about a year ago.
Since the passing of Rabbi Yosef, the lessons have been given at the venue by various rabbis, including his eldest son, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
Today, about a year after the passing of Rabbi Yosef, the synagogue's rabbis decided to invite Rabbi Amar, who will continue the tradition and begin giving the lesson regularly. The person currently in charge of the place is Rabbi Aharon Yirchi.
This is the first halakhic lesson delivered to the general public in recent years by Rabbi Amar, while to date, only the regular lesson has been delivered in the Yesharim line.
It should be noted that the late Rabbi Yosef founded the tradition of the lessons in the place, and after being appointed as the rabbi of Tel Aviv, he bequeathed the teaching of the lessons to his son Rabbi Yaakov.
