As part of an proactive and focused activity by detectives from the Lachish Central Unit in the Southern District against criminal elements involved in criminal disputes in the Ashkelon area, last Thursday a suspicious vehicle was identified that aroused the detectives' suspicion.
During an undercover surveillance of the vehicle, detectives noticed suspicious behavior from its occupants - and when the driver of the vehicle was asked to stop, the suspects attempted to flee. However, the detectives did not give up and the vehicle containing the three suspects was stopped.
During a search of the vehicle, a loaded gun with a bullet in the barrel was seized, along with a helmet, gloves, a change of clothes, and other equipment.
The suspects, residents of Ashkelon, who belong to a known criminal gang, were arrested and transferred for further investigation to the central unit in Lachish.
In a hearing held at the Ashkelon Magistrate's Court, the detention of the three suspects was extended until June 127th.
Commander of the Lachish Police Department, Lt. Col. Shahar Levy: "This is a proactive and focused activity designed to thwart criminal intent before it is carried out. The detectives' professional activity led to the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of weapons, thus preventing a possible attack. The Southern District police will continue to act with determination and professionalism against criminal elements, at any time and in any place, for the sake of public safety.".
