The chairman of the 'Yashar' party, Gadi Eisenkot, stated in an interview with the political podcast '120 and One' that he sees himself as the senior figure in the opposition bloc.
In response to the question of who will be the next prime minister, he firmly replied: "I am working to ensure that it will be me.".
During the interview, he criticized Naftali Bennett and came out against the government model he led in the past.
Eisenkot said: "I worked to build a super-party with two parties alongside it - Lieberman and Golan. When that didn't work, I moved on to Plan B. I'm working to have 4 parties run, with the smaller ones not running or uniting to maximize the votes. It is highly desirable that the candidate for prime minister receive the broadest support in the bloc - certainly not one who heads a party with six or eight seats. This is undemocratic, inappropriate, and undesirable.".
He said, "There was one experience and it is better not to repeat it. The Israeli public delegitimized the previous event and it is desirable that it does not happen again - certainly in light of the reality of recent years. There should be a party with a majority and there should be a coalition as broad as possible that will bring about broad agreements. Only a government that enjoys great legitimacy will do that.".
When asked why the move to establish a large center-left bloc did not succeed, he replied: "I don't think there was just ego here, but a difference in worldviews.".
