An official opinion from the Shin Bet, presented today (Tuesday) to members of the Knesset in a debate on the immunity of MK Tali Gottlieb, suggests that she "directly and materially endangered the life of a senior Shin Bet official" - after choosing to reveal and publicly publish his secret identity.
The Knesset members were presented with concrete examples from the recent period in which attempts were made to harm the lives of Shin Bet personnel and their families whose details were revealed.
The Shin Bet claims that Gottlieb continued to spread the senior official's name, despite receiving explicit warnings about the danger to his life.
The opinion was presented against the backdrop of the heated debates that took place in the Knesset over the past two days regarding Gottlieb's request to receive immunity from criminal prosecution, after Attorney Gali Baharav-Miara decided to file a serious indictment against her for revealing and publishing confidential information.
The affair began after Gottlieb spread a theory that the partner of protest leader Shikama Bresler, who is a senior Shin Bet agent, had secret contacts with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on the eve of the October 7 massacre.
