Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri canceled his attendance at Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's 'Rishon LeZion Award' event - taking place tonight (Thursday) at the Binyamin Ha'ama Building in Jerusalem.

According to a report by Ari Kalman from I24, the decision to cancel was made after the Shas chairman realized that a group of young men had organized signs against him. The signs read: "We want to see our king at our head" with a picture of the leader of the party, Rabbi Yosef.

According to the report, while the event host mentioned Deri's name, he was booed - and the host was unable to calm the angry young people.

Immediately after the report, Deri's office issued a press release titled "Urgent consultation in light of the increasing wave of arrests.".

The announcement - alongside photos - stated that "Shas Chairman Rabbi Aryeh Deri arrived this evening at the residence of the Maran Rashal Gaon Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, Shlita, for urgent consultation in light of the increasing wave of arrests against Torah scholars.".

Also participating in the meeting was "the great Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Rosh Yeshiva 'Ohel Yosef' and member of the special committee for regulating the status of yeshiva students by the Council of Torah Sages.".
