Religious Zionism decided not to participate in the vote.

A confrontation was recorded between MK Yinon Azoulay of Shas and MK Dan Iloz of the Likud after the latter voted against the law. Azoulay shouted at him: "Shame on you!".

MK Meir Porush: "Approval of the dormitory bill initiated by Rabbi Israel Eichler in a preliminary reading is a significant step towards correcting the terrible injustice done to the families of Torah students.".

""I congratulate the coalition members who understood that under no circumstances is it reasonable to punish a small child because his father is studying Torah. We demand that the government immediately advance the bill for final approval.".

""It is a shame that opposition Knesset members, along with a few from the coalition, chose to harm small children in this way. I call on the justice system to stop the persecution of helpless toddlers.".

""United Torah Judaism will continue to fight with all possible means to protect Torah students.".

The initiator of the law, Israel Eichler, responded after the law was approved in a preliminary reading: "The Daycare Law that I proposed many months ago enshrines the right of the working mother to receive a discount for daycare - regardless of the husband's actions. The Knesset's vote in favor of the law is an important bright spot in the darkness of persecution of the entire Haredi public.

""If the secular government does not understand the importance of Torah study - at least in this aspect the Knesset understood that it is impossible to pass anti-Semitic decrees on children and mothers because of the father of the family's Torah study.".

He added: "This is important news for thousands of families that this law will help them earn a living in the labor market with dignity. I hope that the Knesset will expedite the law's procedures as soon as possible until final legislation.".
