London is no longer waiting for him: The State Attorney's Office today (Tuesday) informed the attorneys of the Prime Minister's former chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, that Attorney Gali Baharav Mayara and State Attorney Amit Isman are considering criminally prosecuting him for offenses of fraud, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice.
The prosecution will be subject to a hearing.
The practical meaning is that if Braverman - designated for the position of Israeli ambassador to England - fails to prove his innocence at the hearing, he will become a defendant in the case.
The investigation began following statements made by Eli Feldstein in an interview with the program "Yahiye Tov" on Kan News.
According to the suspicion, in the course of fulfilling his duties, Braverman learned in early October 2024 that a covert investigation was underway for providing raw intelligence information, which was classified as top secret information to secret partners only and was obtained through classified intelligence means.
The news was passed on to the German newspaper Bild, where a significant portion of it and partial quotes from it were published.
Around the time Braverman learned of the investigation, he asked Eli Feldstein, who served as a communications advisor in the Prime Minister's Office, to meet with him urgently at the Kirya base in Tel Aviv.
The two met on Saturday night, late at night, in Feldstein's car in the Kirya parking lot. Braverman read Feldstein several names written on a piece of paper, including the name of the opponent Ari Rosenfeld, and asked him if he knew any of the names. He told him that an investigation was underway - and asked him: "Is it related to you? Is it related to us? Because if so, I can turn it off.".
Feldstein replied in the negative and the two parted ways.
Later, the investigation became public with the arrest of Feldstein and Rosenfeld, and an indictment was filed against them, attributing to Rosenfeld the delivery of the secret information to Feldstein - and later its transmission for publication in the Bild newspaper.
