Hyundai is announcing an urgent recall of more than 421,000 vehicles due to a critical software bug in the vehicle's front cameras. The bug could cause sudden braking while driving.

Fox News reported that according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the US, the system failure causes the automatic safety system to respond prematurely and apply the brakes even when there is no real threat, posing an immediate risk of an accident to vehicles traveling behind.

The recall covers models from the new 2025 and 2026 model years, including the Hyundai Santa Cruz, Tucson, Tucson Hybrid and Tucson Plug-in Hybrid. The report shows that between the end of October 2024 and the end of April 2026, Hyundai offices received 376 reports and complaints from drivers about malfunctions in the automatic braking system that appeared suddenly and for no apparent reason.

At least four cases have led to serious rear-end collisions. Hyundai vehicles braked unexpectedly without driver intervention, and vehicles driving close behind them collided with them forcefully – incidents that resulted in the injury of four people.

Hyundai will send out recall letters to all affected vehicle owners in the next two weeks. Vehicle owners will be required to visit authorized service centers. The company's technicians will perform a dedicated software update for the front camera, which will be performed at no cost to customers.
