Sergeant Nehorai Laizer, 19 years old, from Eilat, a soldier in the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion, "Iron Footprints" formation, fell in battle in southern Lebanon.
The investigation into the incident indicates that yesterday at 3:30 PM, Hezbollah launched an explosive drone towards an IDF force operating in the area of the Christian village of Dabel in southern Lebanon, about 5 km from the border. The drone exploded in the upper part of a Nimr-type armored vehicle (a Merkava armored vehicle). As a result of shrapnel, Sergeant Nahorai Lazer was killed.
In the same incident in which Sergeant Nehorai Laizer fell, an IDF soldier was seriously injured. The soldier was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, and his family was notified.
Nahorai will be laid to rest today at 5:00 PM in the military section of the Eilat cemetery.
Nahorai's mother, Rotem David-Leizer, wrote on her Facebook account: "They ripped out my heart. Why? Why? God, why?".
His sister May wrote: "My little brother. My whole world. My heart stopped beating with you.".
In an interview with IDF Radio, the mother said that he was injured three weeks ago and was not supposed to enter Lebanon, but he volunteered and insisted on returning to combat "because he wanted to be at the forefront.".
The bereaved sister was interviewed on Channel 2: "We woke up to the morning of a new life, with a part of our hearts taken from us. And we will rise from this, with God's help. He was a humble, leading boy, a salt of the earth, with the biggest heart in the world. A loving partner, who looks for good in every corner, putting others before himself.".
Mai said that "he fought to get in, he wasn't supposed to get in - he wanted it. We never imagined that it would come knocking on our door.".
Mai told about her last conversation with her brother: "At any given moment he could update, he would FaceTime us. We all always connected directly, no matter how we saw a phone call from him, and of course he was always smiling and he was always making sure to calm us down. All the time. He didn't let us worry for a moment. Just taking care of our peace of mind, no matter how scared he was inside, and we know he was scared. He didn't let it affect him, he looked ahead.".
The Eilat Municipality stated: "The late Nehorai, one of the city's best sons, a member of a long-standing Eilat family, the son of Rotem (a kindergarten teacher) and Lucian Lucchi (Eilat Municipality). The younger brother of Mai and Roy. A graduate of the Eilat education system. He studied at the 'Eilat Mountains' elementary school and the 'Goldwater' high school. As a teenager he was active in the 'Diller' and 'Madazim' youth movements, continued his service for a year, after which he enlisted in combat engineering and served as an engineering tank driver.".
The principal of Goldwater High School said that Horai was a quality boy, a leader, and at the same time humble and modest. He was loved by his friends. He studied theater and also earned 5 credits in physical education. "He was a social activist throughout his years of study at the school as a cadet and later as an activist in the 'Diller' youth movement. The late Horai, a hero of Israel, a soldier of the land, who fought bravely to defend the State of Israel. May his memory be blessed.".
Sergeant Nahorai Laizer is the 11th casualty since the ceasefire began in Lebanon. Seven of the casualties were caused by explosive drones - five of them in Hezbollah attacks on Lebanese territory, and two on Israeli territory.
