The Knesset plenum held a debate and vote in a preliminary reading on the coalition's bill to dissolve the 25th Knesset at noon (Wednesday).
110 Knesset members supported the proposal, with no opponents or abstentions.
The political move was initiated by the leadership of the Haredi parties against the backdrop of the failure to pass the conscription law.
As part of the political understandings reached, the Knesset Dissolution Law submitted by the Blue and White faction is also expected to pass a preliminary reading in the plenum.
According to the procedure, bills approved by vote will not lead to immediate dispersal, but will first be forwarded for further discussions and drafting in the Knesset committee.
After the committee discussion is completed, the bills will be returned to the Knesset plenary for a vote on first reading.
From there, the law will be passed once again to the committee for final preparations, and only later will it be up for final approval in the plenum on second and third reading.
In the final stage of approving the law in the third reading, the official election date for the State of Israel will also be determined.
It should be noted that the coalition controls the schedule and pace of advancing the law in the committee.
The explanatory notes to the proposal state: "It is proposed to determine, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 34 and 35 of the Basic Law: The Knesset, that the Twenty-fifth Knesset will dissolve before the end of its term, and that the elections for the Twenty-sixth Knesset will be held on a date to be determined by law as proposed by the Knesset committee within the framework of the legislative process.".
