Captain Maoz Israel Rekanti, 24, from the village of Itamar in Samaria, a platoon commander in the 12th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, was killed in battle in southern Lebanon, before the start of Shabbat.

The incident occurred when the force, operating in the village of Deir Saryan in the security zone, came under fire for long hours while Hezbollah terrorists launched explosive drones and mortars at it.

In the area around 2:00 PM, a UAV struck the force and killed the platoon leader. In the hours that followed, the IDF attacked the area in response.

Maoz left behind his parents and six siblings.

He is from a family with roots in Itamar, a member of a family that founded the settlement. Maoz was engaged to Rani, who studied at a seminary in the settlement, and was going to marry her in about a month and establish a home in Israel.

The Samaria Regional Council announces with great sadness the death of Captain Maoz Yisrael Rekanti, a resident of the Itamar settlement, who was killed in Lebanon before the start of Shabbat.

Maoz served as an officer in the Golani Battalion 12, and before that he was a fighter in the Egoz Patrol.

The head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, paid tribute to him: "Maoz was one of the best of our sons, a brave officer and a dedicated fighter who dedicated his life to the security of the people of Israel. Rekanti is the 20th IDF casualty to fall in Lebanon since the outbreak of "The Roar of Hari," and the seventh since the beginning of the ceasefire.
