This is one of the most significant and daring operations since the ground operation began, as it breaks the 'Litany Barrier', which constitutes a strategic line in the campaign.
According to a report by Doron Kadosh, the military correspondent for Galei Tzahal, the forces of the Golani Patrol and the Egoz unit secretly crossed the Litani River, and advanced towards an area from which Hezbollah terrorists launched numerous rockets and mortars at the forces.
During the operation, which has so far been prohibited from publication by security officials, a number of close-range clashes with Hezbollah terrorists developed - during which several IDF fighters were injured.
In one of the dramatic encounters, terrorists emerged from a tunnel shaft north of the Litani - and the forces engaged them in fire at very close range.
During this encounter, a sting unit dog was killed.
The crossing of the Litani was also carried out with heavy armored vehicles - the Golani Patrol's armored personnel carriers, which demonstrated the ability to cross the river, and prepared the possibility of a future crossing of the Litani, if necessary.
