The police have begun an initial examination of statements made by presenters and panelists on Channel 14 against Supreme Court justices.
The investigation was opened following a petition filed by the Fair Regulation Movement with the High Court of Justice, demanding that the State Attorney and the Legal Advisor to the Government be ordered to instruct the police to open a criminal investigation.
The petition claims that the content broadcast on the channel does not constitute legitimate criticism, but rather "harsh, repeated messages of delegitimization, disdain, and open incitement from hosts, commentators, and regular guests with unprecedented frequency and quantity.".
The petition states that "there is a real concern that the channel is being used as a tool by elements who seek to undermine the stability of democracy," seriously harming public trust in state institutions.
The petition was filed against the channel and against a number of employees and commentators - including: Yinon Magal, Yaakov Bardugo, Yotam Zimri, Erel Segal, Shimon Riklin, Itamar Fleischman, Prof. Moshe Cohen Elia, Prof. Talia Einhorn and Attorney David Peter, who frequently represents the government in petitions against it in the High Court of Justice.
