The Iranians probably think they won: The list of demands set by the Iranian regime for an agreement with the US, which prompted a promise from President Donald Trump that "Iran will not laugh anymore" - has been revealed.
According to a report this evening in the Wall Street Journal, Iran's response to the American proposal to end the war includes a proposal to separate the nuclear issue from ending the war - and discuss it separately.
Trump himself later responded by rejecting the proposal. The president posted a scathing statement on his Truth Social network, tweeting: "I just read the response from Iran's 'representatives.' I don't like it. It is completely unacceptable.".
The statement was published shortly before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump spoke by phone to coordinate positions, amid growing tensions surrounding talks with Iran and the possibility of further escalation.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran's response to the US does not include the American demand for Iran's commitments regarding the fate of its nuclear program and enriched uranium stockpile.
Iran, according to the report, is proposing that the nuclear issue be separated from the negotiations to end the war and that separate talks be held on the subject in the coming month. According to the Iranian proposal, now only the end of the war will be discussed, which will lead to the gradual opening of the Strait of Hormuz, while lifting the US naval blockade.
According to the proposal, the nuclear program will be discussed within 30 days - and Iran proposes to dilute some of its enriched uranium to a lower level, and transfer the rest to a third country. Iran is demanding that the uranium be returned from the third country if the talks collapse or if the US withdraws from the agreement in the future.
In addition, Iran agrees to freeze uranium enrichment - but for a shorter period than 20 years as demanded by the US.
