Toronto police arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of involvement in shooting paintballs at Jews.
The first shooting occurred 10 days ago in downtown Toronto, in a neighborhood with a large Jewish population. The second incident occurred last Thursday, near the Beit Midrash of the Babov Hasidim in the city.
In both incidents, a number of Jews were slightly injured.
The suspect in the shooting, Ruslan Norvozov, was arrested for using a weapon - and his actions are being investigated as a hate crime.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called the shooting at the synagogue "a despicable act of anti-Semitism.".
He emphasizes: "Canada is committed to fighting the scourge of anti-Semitism and hatred in all its manifestations. We will continue to build a country in which all Canadian Jews can live openly, freely and safely.".
Opposition leader and head of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poulibert, also condemned: "We must stand on the side of our Jewish neighbors in the face of terrorism and the imposition of terror.".
The B'nai B'rith organization documented no fewer than 6,800 antisemitic incidents in Canada in 2025 - a record figure since it began documenting antisemitism in the country in 1982.
Compared to 2024 data, this is an increase of 9.4% in the number of antisemitic incidents, and an increase of 145.6% compared to 2022.
