His sister, Tehila Atia, wrote to media person Yinon Magal: "I am contacting you following a shocking murder attempt that my brother underwent, in Kiryat Herzog in Bnei Brak.
My brother, Pinchas Atiya, left in the morning after taking his daughter to daycare. On his way back to his car, a motorcycle arrived with two masked men wearing helmets on it. One of them got out, pointed a gun at him, and fired five shots at him from close range, three of which hit him in the stomach - in what clearly appeared to be an attempt to murder him.
It is important for me to emphasize in the clearest possible way: My brother is an honest, God-fearing man, the father of two little girls, studies in a kollel and works in the evenings on errands to support his family. A man with no criminal record, no connection to the criminal world, and no involvement in matters of this kind.
Since the incident, we have been living in a state of shock and fear. It is difficult for us to understand how an innocent and normal person could become the target of such brutal shooting in the middle of Bnei Brak, in the heart of central Israel.
Thank God his medical condition is improving, but mentally it is very difficult to deal with the thought that there are people walking around who tried to murder him and still don't know who they are and what the background to the act is.
I'm reaching out to you not only as a concerned nurse, but as a citizen who wants to feel like someone is taking responsibility. It's not possible that my brother was almost murdered and miraculously came out of it and came back to himself, but he's really scared and worried and wants to know that he's not being threatened and is being taken care of by these crazy people.
"He is truly pure and honest. He has never done anything. He has nothing to do with anything. He is blessed and righteous. I ask you personally to help ensure that the investigation receives full attention and resources, so that we can get answers, justice, and most importantly, a basic sense of security.".
