An Arab who attacked two Jews about five years ago while they were walking in the Old City of Jerusalem will compensate them with 15,000 shekels.
This was determined as part of a compromise agreement between the parties after the victims filed a civil lawsuit against the Arab for 160,000 shekels through attorney Haim Bleicher of Mehonu.
After the attack, the Arab was caught and sentenced to six months in prison, with a suspended sentence and payment of compensation to the victims.
In the lawsuit he filed, Attorney Bleicher described the serious attack: "The plaintiffs were walking in the Old City toward the Western Wall. The defendant, who was walking opposite the plaintiffs, noticed them and decided to attack them only because of their Jewish origin. When the plaintiffs approached the defendant, the defendant deviated from his course toward them, and intentionally collided hard with one of them on the shoulder.
""The plaintiff asked 'what's going on,' and in response the defendant pushed him hard while shouting and getting angry. A fight developed between them, during which the defendant punched and kicked the plaintiff. In his actions described above, the defendant attacked the plaintiffs with severe violence, motivated by racism and hatred towards the public because of religion.".
Attorney Bleicher welcomed the court's decision: "We see great importance in collecting a price from rioters who try to harm the Jewish presence in the heart of Israel's capital. In parallel with the criminal process, there is importance in the civil process in which we often succeed in collecting a financial price from those rioters, thereby increasing the deterrence and security of Israeli citizens.".
