United States President Donald Trump confirmed today (Wednesday) the report that the United States and Iran are approaching an agreement on a memorandum of understanding to end the war.

In an official announcement in which he issued an ultimatum to the Iranian regime regarding the agreement being formed between the countries, the president made it clear that Iranian agreement to the US terms is the only condition for ending the military pressure and naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump noted that if Iran agrees to do its part, the US's 'Epic Fury' operation will come to an end. He added that this situation would allow the Strait of Hormuz to be open to traffic for everyone, including Iran itself.

The president stressed that he doubts Iran's willingness to cooperate with the move. "Assuming Iran agrees to give what it agreed to, a big assumption, the legendary Operation Epic Fury will end and the closure will allow the Strait of Hormuz to be open to everyone, including Iran.".

At the same time, the president issued a direct and harsh threat in the event that the negotiations fail: "If they do not agree, the bombings will begin and, unfortunately, will be at a much higher level and intensity than they were before.".

However, in a conversation with a New York Post reporter, the president cooled down a bit: he told her that it was "too early" to start packing her bags for Pakistan, after reports that an agreement was approaching.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman told the Iranian news agency ISNA: "We are still studying the American proposal.".

American officials earlier told the Axios network that the parties are formulating a short memorandum of understanding, only one page long, intended to end the fighting and form a framework for more detailed negotiations on the nuclear program later on.

A Pakistani source also confirmed the matter to the Reuters news agency.

According to the published details, the emerging agreement includes an Iranian commitment to freeze uranium enrichment, alongside an American agreement to lift sanctions and release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds.

In addition, the understandings also include the removal of restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House expects to receive Iranian answers to several key issues within 48 hours, which may determine whether the move will actually lead to an agreement.
