The Israeli delegation to the OECD, in collaboration with the Agricultural Attaché in Brussels, Daphne Tisch Figenbaum, who is responsible for promoting agricultural exports and representing Israel's agricultural interests in the European arena on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, held an event on food security in Paris today (Tuesday), as part of the meeting of the organization's Committee on Agriculture (COAG). The event, titled "Agri-Resilience: Preparing for Tomorrow's Food Security," addressed the complex challenges in the field of food security in a changing world, against the backdrop of geopolitical developments and the effects of climate change on food availability and global supply chains.
The head of the Food Security Administration at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Yuval Lipkin, participated in the event on behalf of Israel and presented to the participants the Israeli National Food Security Plan that was recently formulated by the ministry. The event was opened by Israel's Ambassador to the OECD, Shai Cohen, and was followed by a professional panel with the participation of senior officials from the OECD and member countries, including senior representatives from the Netherlands and Greece. The discussions presented policy approaches to dealing with food security challenges, including strengthening local production, developing resilient supply chains, promoting innovation and research, and encouraging sustainable consumption.
The event served as a platform for sharing knowledge and experience between countries, while presenting innovative solutions and discussing the balances required between environmental sustainability and ensuring sufficient nutrition for the global population.
Yuval Lipkin, Head of the Food Security Administration at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security"The reality of recent years illustrates the extent to which our food security is not something to be taken for granted. Israel is working to strengthen local production as a central anchor, alongside developing tools for risk management and improving supply chains. The combination of a strong food security policy and dialogue and cooperation in the international arena is the key to building stable food systems over time.".
