Tragedy in the Haredi community in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn: Rabbi Nachum Yisrael Aber, a 51-year-old Belza Hasid, a resident of the neighborhood, who was traveling to Colombia - was robbed and murdered.
A few days ago, contact with him was lost and his family contacted the authorities for help in locating him. After a frantic search, the deceased's body was found in an isolated area with severe signs of violence.
According to initial reports from Colombian authorities, Rabbi Nahum was kidnapped by a local criminal gang. The attackers, who apparently tried to rob him, murdered him before fleeing the scene.
Rabbi Nahum is a member of a well-known Belz Hasidic family. He was the son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Aber, z"l, a Belz Hasidic in Montreal, Canada. His mother is the daughter of Rabbi Yitzhak Shlomo Grunwald, z"l, one of the greatest Belz Hasidic in Montreal.
The deceased left behind a family and 16 brothers and sisters living in Belz communities in the United States, Canada and Israel.
Leaders of the Jewish community in Colombia, working alongside international aid organizations and activists from the United States, are now focused on ensuring the dignity of the deceased.
Colombian authorities have opened a murder investigation, and community representatives are applying diplomatic pressure to expedite the bureaucratic process.
