The Deputy Foreign Minister toured the hot spots of friction in the southern Hebron Hills today (Monday), as part of a move to strengthen Israeli propaganda in the face of international attacks on the settlements.
The tour included a visit to the Anim, Susya, Nawaja, Kadma and Barkai farms, as well as an in-depth observation of the Masafar Yatta area.
During the tour, the Deputy Minister discussed the complex reality on the ground, which includes daily attacks against Jewish shepherds and farmers, alongside serious nationalist crime emanating from the Arab villages in the area. During her visit to the Carmel settlement, the Deputy Minister met with the head of the council, Eliram Azoulay, who briefly reviewed with her the needs of the settlements and the need to strengthen road safety.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sharan Haskel said during the observation at Masafar Yatta: "Does anyone here really see 'apartheid'? The anarchist left is running a false international campaign that is disconnected from reality against settlement. Their goal is to turn terrorists and criminals into victims and paint the State of Israel in the colors of a racist regime.
""On the ground, the reality is the opposite - daily violence against Jews, attempted attacks and stone-throwing ambushes. Beyond terrorism, the region has become a Wild West of nationalist crime that includes theft, illegal trafficking and shooting during clan conflicts that endanger the families of the settlers. Armed terrorists roam unhindered within places that are presented to the world as 'peaceful villages.'".
Referring to the issue of firing area 918 and European involvement, the Deputy Minister added: "It is important to tell the truth: this area was defined as a firing area as early as the early 1980s. After 20 years of discussions, the High Court of Justice ruled unequivocally that the petitioners invaded the area and lied about historical permanent residence. The illegal construction here is being pushed by the European Union in order to stifle Jewish settlement and create a hostile continuum in the heart of Area C. Sovereignty is not a dirty word, and enforcing the law against invaders is the duty of every democratic state. It is time to stop apologizing and show the world the truth on the ground.".
