Sergeant Idan Fox, 19, from Petah Tikva, a fighter in the 77th Battalion of the 'Golan Assault' formation, was killed this morning (Sunday) in southern Lebanon by a Hezbollah explosive drone attack in the village of A-Tayyiba in southern Lebanon.
In the incident in which Fox fell, a combat officer and three combatants were seriously injured, one combatant moderately injured, and another combatant lightly injured.
Doron Kadosh, the military correspondent for Galei Tzahal, wrote about the details of the incident:
During the morning hours, a tank from an armored company operating under the 12th Battalion of the Golani - got stuck in the village of A-Tayyiba in Lebanon, a village located on the second line of villages - about 4 km from Metula and Misgav Am. After the tank got stuck, the armored force deployed a caterpillar - and had to treat the tank in the field.
At around 9:30 a.m., an explosive drone launched by Hezbollah terrorists fell near a stranded Golani forces tank - in the village area.
Following the explosion of the explosive drone, Idan Hayd was killed and 6 additional fighters were injured: 4 seriously, 1 moderately and 1 lightly.
An air force helicopter was scrambled to evacuate the victims of the incident to a hospital in Israeli territory. The helicopter landed inside Lebanese territory. During the evacuation operations, Hezbollah launched two additional explosive drones at the rescue forces.
The forces managed to intercept one of the drones, and the second drone fell very close to the Air Force evacuation helicopter - while the casualties were being evacuated from the scene, just a few meters away from the helicopter. There were no other casualties during the rescue operations, and the helicopter was not damaged by the drone explosion.
The IDF defines the incident as a "blatant violation of the ceasefire agreements." More than 20 such "blatant violations" have been recorded since the beginning of the ceasefire with Hezbollah - and over the past week Hezbollah has attacked our forces in southern Lebanon daily with explosive drones, UAVs, anti-tank missiles, IEDs and rockets.
Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg offered a eulogy: "I share in the deep sorrow of the Fox-Ara family over the fall of their son/nephew/grandson, Hero of Israel, soldier Idan Fox, the late - in the fighting in southern Lebanon. Idan was a resident of the city of Petah Tikva - Pisgat Hadar neighborhood, a graduate of Ben Gurion High School in the city. We share in the family's deep sorrow. May his memory be blessed.".
16 soldiers have fallen in southern Lebanon since the start of Operation "Roar of the Harrier.".
