The attempted smuggling affair of the former 'operations officer': Attorney Israel Andan, 46, from Beit Shemesh, admitted in a federal court in the United States that he attempted to smuggle Elazar Vigdorowicz, a Gur Hasid from Israel, across the border between Canada and the United States.

According to the indictment, Andan hid it behind suitcases in the trunk of the rental car he was traveling in. The two were arrested earlier this year at the border crossing near Niagara Falls - and transferred to a New York prison.

According to a report by Shimon Ifergan on the Mako website, the lawyer, Hasid Gur, an American citizen, faces up to ten years in prison and a fine of a quarter of a million dollars.

The verdict is expected to be handed down in the coming days.

Wigderovich was extradited to Israel last week and arrested at Ben Gurion Airport. The day after his extradition, he was brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court for an extension of his detention, which extended his detention by 12 days.

The two are suspects in a real estate fraud case in Tel Aviv involving millions of shekels. According to the suspicion, they forged documents and sold a building belonging to two elderly sisters to several developers at the same time - and they filed complaints with the police.

An investigation warrant is pending against Andan in Israel and he is wanted by the fraud division in the Tel Aviv district.

They later fled the country to Poland and from there to Canada. Andan rented a car and tried to smuggle Wigderovich to the United States through the border crossing at Niagara Falls, after he was unable to obtain a visa to the United States due to his criminal record.

During a search of the luggage compartment, border crossing officers found Wigderovich hiding among the suitcases. The two, as mentioned, were arrested and taken to a New York jail - where charges were filed against them.
