Acute escalation: Just hours after President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire without an end date and the continuation of the naval blockade on Iran, the regime responded with an attack on trade routes.
Since Wednesday morning, three merchant ships have been fired upon as they attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz, with one of them suffering heavy damage after being fired at by an RPG missile and small arms fire.
The third cargo ship attacked off the coast of Iran was heading south out of the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman. The Revolutionary Guards reportedly stopped the ship and ordered it to anchor. The ship reported damage.
According to reports from the British Maritime Trade Center, a Revolutionary Guard gunboat approached a Greek-owned container ship and opened fire without any prior warning, even though the captain had previously been informed that he had been given permission to pass.
On the other hand, the US military's Central Command reports that their forces have so far captured two Iranian ships and turned back dozens more.
According to estimates by the FDD Institute, the economic blockade imposed by the Trump administration is costing Iran about half a billion dollars every day.
