Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar is expected to be questioned again this Thursday.

According to a report this evening (Monday) by Roy Yanovsky on Kan News, the 11-hour investigation yesterday dealt with wiretaps in the possession of the police, in which insurance agent Ezra Gabbay - one of the main suspects in the Histadrut corruption scandal - was heard bragging about his connections with the minister and using his name to promote his own interests.

One of the cases being investigated in the corruption case is Gabbay's attempt to reach the workers' committee of the National Fund for the purpose of selling insurance plans. Gabbay, who was in conflict with workers' committee chairman Israel Goldstein, enlisted the help of a bright minister who tried to bridge the gaps between the parties during a meeting.

While Minister Zohar claims that he tried to bridge two sides in an 'internal Likud conflict', since Goldstein is also a member of the party, the police suspect that the fact that Gabbay recruited thousands into the Likud ranks for Minister Zohar constitutes a business interest and places the minister in a conflict of interest.

Minister Zohar, who is represented by attorney Tal Gabbay, said: "I answered all the questions I was asked, which, unfortunately, were all about purely political issues. I took the opportunity to explain in detail to the investigators how Israeli politics has always worked without exception, including here in the Likud.".

Attorney Yaron Gigi, who represents Goldstein, said: "As part of the criminal investigation, a version was taken from my client that was verified by the investigators. My client has no hand or foot in the affair. He is not involved or connected to the affair, and the criminal case against him is about to be closed.".
