German Chancellor Friedrich Merz tweeted this evening (Monday) against "de facto annexation" of Judea and Samaria - and received a sharp attack from Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Meretz directly criticized the government's policy in Judea and Samaria and revealed that he demanded in a conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu to impose a ban on the "de facto annexation" of the region.

Chancellor Meretz wrote on his X account: "Very concerned about the developments in the Palestinian territories. In my phone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu, I made it clear: There can be no de facto annexation of the West Bank.".

His remarks, written on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, drew immediate outrage in the political system.

The one who immediately went on the attack was Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who is in charge of the settlement administration.

Smotrich wrote: "On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the German Chancellor should bow his head and apologize a thousand times in the name of Germany. May he not dare to preach to us how to behave in the face of the Nazis of our generation who murdered, raped, slaughtered and burned women, the elderly and children in the most terrible massacre committed against the Jewish people since the terrible Holocaust.".

The minister went on to attack the leadership of European countries, claiming that they have lost their moral compass and the ability to distinguish between good and evil. "We will not accept instructions from hypocritical leaders in Europe, which is once again losing its conscience and the ability to distinguish between good and evil.".

The minister then addressed the Jewish people's right to their land and sent a strong message: "Mr. Chancellor, the days when Germans dictated to Jews where they were allowed and where they were not allowed to live - are gone and will not return. You will not put us in ghettos again, certainly not in our own country.".

According to him, returning to the homeland is the crushing answer to all those who tried to destroy us: "Our return to the Land of Israel - our biblical and historical homeland - is the answer to all those who tried and are trying to destroy us, and we do not apologize for it for a moment. The people of Israel live.".
