Data from Tel Aviv University's annual anti-Semitism report, published this morning (Monday), shows that during 2025 there was a sharp increase in cases of severe violence against Jews around the world.

According to the data, last year there were 20 murders on anti-Semitic grounds in four different incidents - the highest figure recorded in more than 30 years.

The report shows a jump in the number of physical attacks in Western countries, compared to 2024.

The most serious figures were recorded in Australia, where 15 people were murdered in a terrorist attack during a Hanukkah ceremony organized by a Chabad house on Monday Beach in Sydney.

In Canada, the number of incidents tripled compared to 2022.

Professor Irwin Kotler, former Canadian Justice Minister, emphasized that in his country, Jews make up about one percent of the population, but they are the target of 721% of hate crimes - a statistic that shows that the risk of a Jew being a victim of a hate crime is 25 times greater than any other minority group.

In Britain and New York, researchers point to an unusual trend: the number of anti-Semitic incidents continued to rise precisely after the end of the war in Gaza. According to the report's editors, this indicates that anti-Semitism in these countries has become a permanent trend that is no longer directly dependent on security events in Israel.

In France and Germany, there was a decrease in the overall number of incidents, but the number of cases of physical violence remained stable and even increased slightly.

In Belgium and Italy, there has been a worrying increase in both the number of incidents and physical attacks.

Increases were recorded in Mexico, Spain and New Zealand, while countries such as South Africa and Chile recorded a decrease compared to 2024.

Prof. Oriya Shavit, editor of the report: "The steep increase in cases of serious violence is not surprising, and when law enforcement authorities are indifferent to small crimes, the result is major crimes.".
