The Istanbul General Prosecutor's Office filed an unusually broad indictment over the weekend against 35 senior Israeli officials, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - following the navy's seizure of the ships of the "Somoud" flotilla to Gaza last October.
The prosecution is seeking life imprisonment and sentences ranging from 1,102 to 4,596 years in prison.
The list includes, alongside Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, his predecessor Yoav Galant, Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, National Defense Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, and Navy Commander David Salame.
The indictment also includes former IDF spokesman Daniel Hegary and Knesset member Tali Gottlieb.
The indictment claims that the seizure of the flotilla cannot be considered a legitimate security measure, but rather an "act with serious consequences" under international law.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sharply attacked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, writing on his Twitter account: "Israel under my leadership will continue to fight the terrorist regime of Iran and its branches, in contrast to Erdogan, who aids them and even massacres his Kurdish citizens.".
Minister Israel Katz responded: Turkish President Erdogan, who did not respond to the firing of missiles from Iran into Turkish territory and turned out to be a paper tiger, is fleeing to the realms of anti-Semitism and announcing show trials in Turkey against Israel's political and military leadership.
""What an absurdity. The Muslim Brotherhood man, who massacred Kurds, accuses Israel of genocide when it defends itself against its Hamas partners. Israel will continue to defend itself with strength and determination - and he would be better off sitting quietly and keeping quiet.".
