The reactions in the political system to the ceasefire agreement were predictable: while the coalition praised it, the opposition issued sour statements.
Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri came out in defense of the government and issued a statement at the end of the holiday: "It is regrettable to see former prime ministers, defense ministers, and chiefs of staff working against the state in order to achieve short-term political gain.".
He added: "It is clear to any reasonable person that this is a war of no choice that has achieved tremendous achievements together with our American allies. Anyone who works to create a false impression of defeat indicates that politics is more important to them than patriotism.".
He emphasized: "The Israeli public is smarter than its opposition.".
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded: "While our fighters and commanders continue to act with determination on all fronts and the State of Israel presents unprecedented achievements, the opposition leaders prove once again that they have become an opposition obsessed with the state and not the government and are busy in a desperate attempt to compete among themselves for the title of 'who weakens Israel the most' - while making statements that are disconnected from reality that illustrate how much they have lost direction and are unworthy of leading.".
""The State of Israel went on a campaign against the head of the octopus, and in close cooperation with the world's greatest power - the United States under the leadership of President Trump - dealt him a powerful blow, one that has never been seen before.".
He noted that "the war is not over yet and its full goals have not yet been achieved, but Israel is infinitely stronger today than it was before the war and its enemies are infinitely weaker and will continue, God willing, to be defeated and weakened until they are defeated. We will continue to act with God's help with strength, to strike at our enemies, and to establish a new security reality that will shape the face of the Middle East for many years to come.".
Opposition leader Yair Lapid issued a defeatist statement on his X-account: "There has never been such a political disaster in our entire history. Israel was not even at the table when decisions were made concerning the core of our national security. The army did everything they asked of it, and the public displayed incredible resilience.".
""But Netanyahu failed politically, failed strategically, and did not meet any of the goals he himself set. It will take us years to repair the political and strategic damage that Netanyahu caused due to arrogance, negligence, and lack of strategic planning.".
The chairman of the State Camp, Benny Gantz, wrote: "The test of the unprecedented military achievement of the IDF, the Mossad and all the security branches is still ahead of us. This campaign must not end without an agreement to destroy the uranium or remove it, stop the production of ballistic missiles and when Iran stops arming its proxies. Today's statements have no meaning - only the results that we will see in the coming days and months.
""One way or another: Israel must preserve for itself, in any future agreement, the freedom of action against any Iranian restoration attempt and continue to act against Hezbollah and hold southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed and the threat to the residents of the north is removed.".
Democratic Party Chairman Yair Golan also attacked sharply: "Netanyahu lied. He promised a 'historic victory' and security for generations, and in reality we received one of the worst strategic failures Israel has ever known. Blood was spilled here, civilians were killed, heroic fighters fell.".
""None of the goals were achieved: the nuclear program was not destroyed, the ballistic threat remained, and the regime remained intact and even emerged from this war stronger. The same picture again: the IDF wins – Israel loses.".
Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman joined his friends from the left: "The ceasefire with Iran gives the ayatollah regime a break and an opportunity to reorganize. Any agreement with Iran, without renouncing the destruction of Israel, uranium enrichment, the production of ballistic missiles and support for terrorist organizations in the region - means that we will have to return to another campaign under more difficult conditions and pay a heavier price.".
Otzma Yehudit faction chairwoman Zvika Fogel, who also serves as chairwoman of the National Security Committee, addressed the ceasefire in a short post on the X network - writing: "Donald, you came out a duck!""
