In a joint operation by the General Security Service and the Central District Police Chief, Mekdad Modar Husni Natour, a 47-year-old Israeli citizen, resident of Qalanswa, was arrested for questioning on suspicion of contacting a foreign intelligence agent and carrying out missions under his direction.
According to the indictment filed today (Friday) by the State Attorney's Office with the Central Lod District Court, he is accused of security offenses of contact with a foreign agent, espionage, and destruction of evidence.
This is a serious activity by an Israeli citizen, who, following his contact with the Al Jazeera channel, was referred by them to a foreign agent, who recruited him to carry out prohibited activity during wartime, with the understanding that his activity constitutes a violation of state security.
According to the indictment, Natour worked for many years as a sign language interpreter for state authorities and institutions, and, among other things, provided services to the Israel Police, the Prison Service, the Judiciary, and the National Insurance Institute.
During his interrogation, it emerged that in search of work, the defendant turned to the Al Jazeera channel and the channel's officials referred him to a person who was acting on behalf of a hostile entity to promote the execution of missions before and during the "Roar of Hari" war. The entity, who introduced himself as "Abu Ali", offered him a monthly payment in exchange for publishing news items on the Telegram channel - where content would be published, the purpose of which was to echo messages that served the enemy. As part of the relationship, Natour received money as payment for his work.
Despite suspecting that this was a hostile entity or one acting on behalf of an enemy state, Natur chose to continue cooperating with him, even during Operation "Harry's Roar.".
The indictment indicates that the agent used Natur to transmit ongoing information from within Israel, including information regarding the security situation, population morale, damage from missile fire, civilian infrastructure, and even the status of essential services such as water, electricity, and the Internet.
Among other things, he sent the agent reports regarding the discovery of ammunition remnants in the Upper Galilee as a result of rocket fire, along with photos; a Home Front Command announcement regarding the end of the incident in various areas across the country; the Israel Police's handling of a crash scene that caused serious damage; the identification and downing of a hostile drone in Nahariya, and additional information.
In addition, Natur was required to prepare detailed daily reports on various issues relating to the conduct of civilian life in Israel during hostilities, and was also asked to physically visit hospitals near the area of missile strikes and update on the number of wounded and dead - information that could seriously harm the security of the state and its citizens.
During the relationship, Natour systematically worked to hide his activities, deleting correspondence, using an anonymous Telegram account, and managing their conversation using the 'saved messages' function, in a manner designed to disguise the existence of the relationship and make it difficult to expose it.
