
The Prime Minister's Office issued an official statement on behalf of the Prime Minister's wife, Sara Netanyahu, this evening (Monday), announcing that she has decided to reject proposals to light a torch at the State of Israel's 78th Independence Day ceremony.
The announcement comes after her return from a state visit to Washington, which she went to at the invitation of US First Lady Melania Trump.

Following Mrs. Sara Netanyahu's return from an important diplomatic visit to Washington, D.C., at the personal invitation of the First Lady of the United States, Mrs. Melania Trump, Mrs. Netanyahu expresses her gratitude to MK Sasson Guetta for the honorable recommendation, and to Minister Miri Regev, who is in charge of the Independence Day ceremonies. Mrs. Netanyahu also thanks many in the Israeli people for the support, warmth, and appreciation that deeply moved her.
At this time, when the State of Israel is in a war of survival and in historic times against Iran, and at the same time continues to face the War of Rebirth for nearly two and a half years, Mrs. Netanyahu emphasizes that the lighting of the torch on Independence Day deserves to be for the wonderful citizens of the State of Israel, who stand bravely on the front and in the rear and continue to guarantee each other in unspeakable acts of kindness.
Mrs. Netanyahu asked that this torch also belong to our heroic and brave soldiers, whose deeds of heroism will be widely spoken of; to the daring pilots who defend Israel, who fly high and reach great distances.
