MK Merav Ben Ari of the Yesh Atid party, who serves as the opposition coordinator in the Knesset, apologized today (Monday) to the opposition leaders for the embarrassment they caused during the exercise carried out by the coalition - in which opposition MKs voted in favor of reservations that approved the transfer of hundreds of millions of shekels to Haredi education.
""I want to apologize to all of you for yesterday. It was my full responsibility," Ben Ari wrote to the faction leaders. "It took me about two minutes to understand, so we objected to everything else. This is my ninth budget, I've managed thousands of reservations, and this time I wasn't vigilant - and I was wrong.".
She continued Yesh Atid's campaign of incitement and lashed out: "Remember that the one who stole the public purse last night in a swindle, which I assume will also be disqualified, is the coalition. Since I didn't turn a blind eye, it was important for me to clarify here as well. We will continue to fight.".
The state budget was approved tonight by a majority of 62 Knesset members against 55 opponents.
Embarrassingly, for long minutes the opposition members sat and voted in favor of the reservations submitted by the coalition - until the Arab Knesset members noticed the scandal and woke up the other opposition members.
One of the reservations was even approved by a rare majority of 109 MKs, with no opponents.
The exercise enabled the transfer of hundreds of millions of shekels to Haredi educational institutions - contrary to the position of legal advice.
