In the Knesset, a chametz sale ceremony was held today (Sunday) in the office of Knesset Director General Moshe (Chico) Edri, with the participation of the Rabbi of the Knesset, Rabbi Aviad Gutman.
At the beginning of the event, the Knesset Director General thanked the former Chief Rabbi, the Gaon Rabbi David Lau, for coming especially to the Knesset and agreeing to serve as an emissary for the sale of Knesset leaven. He then reviewed with him the development and extensive activities in the Knesset building, alongside the comprehensive preparations for Passover.
After the sale, Rabbi Lau delivered encouraging words in the Knesset synagogue to Knesset members, the CEO, and Knesset employees who also came to sell their hamz in person.
Rabbi Lau addressed the meaning of the Seder and the importance of unity in the Jewish people: "The Knesset is the place that expresses all parts of the Jewish people together, and it is precisely here, on the eve of the Seder tonight, when we commemorate how we all left Egypt together, as one and without exception, that we must remember our common ground. When our ancestors stood in front of the Red Sea, despite the arguments and different opinions that were there, they chose to believe and march forward together. When we are together, we win. This is the special heavenly company that has accompanied us since the Exodus from Egypt and throughout all generations. Let us all cling to the tradition of our ancestors, preserve unity, and merit great salvations.".
Knesset Director General, Moshe (Chico) Edri: "Like every year, on the eve of Passover, we hold the traditional sale of leaven. Maintaining this regular custom is an expression of being a Knesset home and a symbol of the tradition of generations and a deep connection to our roots. We offer a prayer and wish a happy, peaceful and safe Passover to every house of Israel.""
