National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir refused to sign off on the promotion of Officer Rinat Saban - and filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, through attorney David Peter, against the district court judge's decision.
Ben Gvir is required to grant Saban the rank of lieutenant colonel by midnight yesterday, otherwise - it will be granted to her by virtue of a judicial order. Saban is scheduled to receive the rank at a ceremony to be held today (Tuesday) at noon.
In his appeal, the minister noted that the district judge's decision that the minister must sign the promotion - and that if he did not sign, the ranks would be awarded to the officer by virtue of a judicial decision - was made with "a clear lack of authority.".
Ben Gvir claims that this determination by the judge bypasses his ministerial authority and constitutes illegal interference in the discretion of the political echelon.
Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir: "Rinat Saban is an unworthy officer, who even the Supreme Court ruled in a panel of nine judges that as an investigator she significantly violated the rights of those being investigated. A minister is not a rubber stamp and will not lie to himself and appoint someone who has broken the law on countless occasions.".
