The National Security Committee, headed by MK Zvika Fogel, held its first debate today (Thursday) on a bill to regulate the celebration of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai on Mount Meron.
The discussion was attended by Minister Shlomo Kari, former Minister MK Meir Porush, Hiloula Project Director Yossi Deitch, Director General of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israeli Tradition Shimon Album, professionals in the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israeli Tradition, representatives of the police, the Ministry of Transportation, and more.
National Security Committee Chairwoman, MK Zvika Fogel: "The Rashbi celebration on Mount Meron is one of the largest Jewish and Israeli events in the country. Hundreds of thousands come to the celebration every year, and they come to pray, sing, dance and rejoice. We do not for a moment forget the grave disaster that occurred on the mountain, which resulted in the deaths of 45 people. Approval of the temporary order before us will enable the implementation of the lessons of the investigative committee.".
Minister of Communications, Shlomo Kari, responsible for the Rashbi celebration in Meron for 2016: "Our warriors are going out to battle these days to carry out a mitzvah war. We very much hope that by the time of Rabbi Shimon's celebration, the country will be at peace with a crushing victory over our enemy. But even if we are still in a state of war, the law we are passing here regulates the celebration events and allows us to celebrate under the necessary restrictions. In the month and a half until the celebration, we will expand the capacity of the parking lots so that any visitor who wants to come will be able to do so.".
Former Minister of Jerusalem and Jewish Tradition, MK Meir Porush, who was responsible for the celebration in recent years: "I wish Minister Shlomo Kari great success as he will be the responsible minister this year. Our success will be a success for the entire Jewish people. The Israeli government is investing a lot of money in the various complexes around the Rashbi's tomb, but additional investments are still needed.
""I greatly appreciate the consistency and professionalism of the committee and its head, MK Zvika Fogel. I know that the Ministry of Jerusalem and Jewish Tradition is constantly working on preparations for the celebration, and it is important that it be done in the best possible way.".
