Sasson Guetta, a MK from the backbenches of the Likud, today (Wednesday) addressed Transportation Minister Miri Regev and the Torch Committee, recommending that the Prime Minister's wife, Sara Netanyahu, carry a torch at the upcoming Independence Day ceremony.
In the letter of recommendation, Guetta explained that he chose to recommend Netanyahu because she plays the role of "a strategic anchor that provides resilience to the country's leadership," as he put it.
In his letter, Guetta - who is fighting for a place in the Likud primaries - also addressed the public criticism against the prime minister's wife, noting that in standing "in the face of delegitimization campaigns and personal attacks," Netanyahu is "a symbol of Jewish determination and national pride for millions of Israelis.".
The one who came out against the idea was Yonatan Urich, the prime minister's close advisor, who returned to work at the bureau this week after about a year of being removed.
Urich tweeted on his X account: "A very popular opinion - not every trolling by an MK in the Likud primaries deserves a headline.".
