Communications Minister Shlomo Kari participated today (Wednesday) in a situation assessment at the Binyamin Council's emergency operations center, together with the head of the council and Yesha Council Chairman Yisrael Gantz, the council's management, and the emergency units operating since the beginning of Operation "The Roar of the Harrier.".
During the discussion, Gantz raised with the minister the need to prepare for a scenario of a power outage and the collapse of communication systems throughout Judea and Samaria during missile attacks - and emphasized that in such a situation, communities could remain cut off.
According to him, it must be ensured that the security forces and security officials in the localities have alternative means of communication that will allow them to maintain continuous contact with the operational commander and the forces in the field, even in the event of damage to civilian infrastructure.
Within this framework, the operation of satellite phones that have already been distributed to some of the communities was discussed, as well as the possibility of quickly activating them in the event of an emergency so that they can serve as a backup for the regular communications networks.
During the visit, the minister also addressed the strengthening of communications infrastructure in the region, saying that 17 new communications sites are expected to be built throughout Binyamin in the coming year.
""For many years, this area was second-class in terms of resource allocation," said Minister Kari. "Today, we have put Judea and Samaria at the top of the priority list. We have 17 communication masts here that will be erected, with God's help, in the coming year in Binyamin. In the first phase, seven new sites will be erected in the coming months. What we are doing here on the ground is part of the actual sovereignty that is expressed in your actions here every day.".
Kari added: "We are in fateful days for the people of Israel. Seeing the mission that is here in the settlement of Judea and Samaria is exciting. The people of Israel have returned to the land of their ancestors and are guarding the land here and ensuring the eternity of Israel.".
Head of the Binyamin Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council, Yisrael Gantz: "It is important to understand that this is not another mast or another antenna. Until the entry of this government, there were entire areas in Binyamin where there was almost no reception, which made life very difficult for the residents. The minister made a significant move here that improved reception in many places. The infrastructure in Judea and Samaria must be at the same level as anywhere else in the State of Israel, and we thank the minister for leading this important move.".
Gantz added: "We give our full support to the government and the security forces to continue until the complete defeat of our enemies. The dramatic decisions being made now are the key to the country's long-term security, and we are here to strengthen your hands.".
