Rabbi Dr. Eliyahu Rahamim Zini, Rosh Yeshiva 'Or Yishua', sharply criticizes the Ministry of Education's instructions on the conduct of educational institutions on Shabbat and during Operation 'Roar of the Lion'.
According to him, the guidelines led to situations of Sabbath desecration and even the cancellation of Torah study in educational institutions and yeshivahs.
According to a report by Dvir Amar on Channel 7, at the beginning of his remarks he referred to the directive issued last Shabbat, according to which educational institutions must return students to their homes, even when this involves desecrating Shabbat. "Last Shabbat, the Ministry of Education issued a directive according to which educational institutions are obliged to return their students home if this involves desecrating Shabbat because of the war.".
According to him, a large portion of state-religious educational institutions implemented the directive without rabbinical consultation, "The overwhelming majority of state-religious educational institutions obeyed blindly and without any rabbinical (or perhaps public) consultation, causing unjustified mass desecration of the Sabbath, at least for the places where there are enough battalions to protect more than one home!""
Rabbi Zini later claimed that the instructions were also extended to yeshivas, including Hesder yeshivas, and according to him, this is an even more serious step, because it leads to the cancellation of Torah study.
""Yesterday the climax arrived, the Ministry of Education in its most audacious manner dared to issue a similar directive even to yeshivas - including Hesder yeshivas - to send students home and cancel Torah study! Who are these impudent people who allow themselves to determine halakha and more without consulting with Torah authorities?!""
In his opinion, the problem is not only in the instructions themselves but also in the conduct of the administrators of the institutions, "but the terrible thing is not these brazen instructions from the Ministry of Education, but the blind compliance of the heads of these institutions who do not bother to consult us, the rabbis who are responsible for observing the Torah.".
He criticized: "There is a despicable and vile servitude here of a certain religious Zionism, which transferred the sanctity of the Torah to the state instead of applying the sanctity of the Torah to the state. Needless to say, there is no room here for disobedience if there are no proper shelters, but if there is proper protection, who would dare to abolish the Torah. And has the Minister of Education become the Chief Rabbi of Israel?!""
He also criticized Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who called for a prayer to be said in synagogues for the peace of US soldiers: "Although we hear today of politicians who also elevate themselves to the level of Torah authorities and want to determine who we bless on Shabbat, such impudence must be rejected and resolutely rejected.".
According to him, in institutions where there are worthy commanders, there is no justification for obeying such instructions. "Blessed be God, I replied to the Hesder Yeshiva Union that in light of the fact that we have worthy and sufficient commanders, we will not obey such impudent instructions. And blessed be God, other institutions run by people close to me have also acted and will act like us. We are servants of God, not servants of politicians in sacred matters!""
