Defense Minister Yisrael Katz revealed today (Wednesday) that the operation in Iran was planned to take place later this year - but due to circumstances, it was brought forward significantly.

Katz spoke with soldiers and commanders of the Intelligence Division and said: "Our advantage over Iran in this campaign is mainly in two dimensions - intelligence and operational capability.

""If you ask what surprised the Iranians to the point that they were unprepared despite the strategic warning - because they did not know how to gauge and evaluate the two dimensions: the breadth and depth of intelligence up to the final target, and the operational ability to utilize intelligence to harm, attack, destroy and demolish their capabilities.

""When we spoke following the very successful 'Am Kalavi' operation, I also said, and it was clear, we are not fighting the war that was, we need to prepare for the next war. Many intelligence and other capabilities have been exhausted, burned out, and have already been used, and therefore the challenge was to rebuild the intelligence capability, and not just build it but expand it tenfold, and that is what actually happened here, across all of Iran.".

""Beyond that, since an operation was planned for the middle of the year, with the same target that was set, but due to developments and circumstances, especially what happened inside Iran, and the position of the President of the United States, and the entire possibility of creating a combined operation here, then the need arose to bring everything forward to February. This was something that we ourselves had hoped for but were not sure about, and you provided enormous progress in the intelligence dimension, day by day and hour by hour - more capability and more dimensions and of course operational preparedness.".

The minister emphasized: "You have a huge part in building this capability, which has both led to this entire combination and to the result of the fantastic opening blow and to the continuation. So I truly express great appreciation and urge you to continue on the same path because we are in the midst of a campaign, we are convinced that it will end in the best way, and the results will be a very significant reinforcement of the security of the State of Israel, its status, the removal of threats and all the things that we have been dealing with for a long time. So thank you very much, and we can still say Happy Purim to everyone.".

Chief of Military Intelligence Major General Shlomi Binder said: "From this location, we are also dealing with providing timely warning in a multi-scene campaign, looking at all the scenes all the time and making sure to bring high-quality intelligence from there that will give us the necessary warning.".

""We also provide intelligence for decision-making, and mainly provide intelligence now for victory over the enemy, for victory over Iran in all areas, in all missions, and in all the capabilities that we have determined will be taken away from them. We are engaged 24/7.".

""What you see here is just the front end of all the thousands of people in the Intelligence Directorate who work to make these things happen.".

""We are providing information here so that we can also provide you, the Chief of Staff, with the intelligence to make the decisions you need. I want to tell you that things are on track. Even when I left here yesterday from the pit to tour the field, people are very driven, very determined, very dedicated, they came to win without stories, and they are doing their job both with reverence and in a very, very impressive and admirable manner.".

""We are on the right track, we are on schedule, the intelligence is achieving the tasks we need to meet, and we hope to continue like this with all our might moving forward.".
