""And the reverse is that the Jews themselves will rule over their enemies": Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu participated tonight (Tuesday) in the reading of the Book of Esther at the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva in Jerusalem, along with his wife Sara and son Avner.
The head of the yeshiva, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira, hosted Netanyahu, who read from a kosher parchment scroll, in the yeshiva library where the murderous attack took place in 2008.
""Instead of hearing alarms, soon a shofar will be sounded for our freedom," Rabbi Shapira told Netanyahu - adding: "Mordechai will not kneel or bow. Mordechai is from the tribe of Benjamin. We also do not bow to anyone.".
Participants in the reading said that the Prime Minister's excitement was evident throughout the event.
Kan News reported that the Prime Minister's participation was in violation of Home Front Command guidelines, which prohibit gatherings.
The guidelines prohibit all public gatherings, and many synagogues across the country remain closed.
Netanyahu's office responded by saying that the event took place in accordance with the guidelines.
The meeting also emphasized that the reading took place in a limited forum, and that the library is located opposite a protected space adjacent to the venue.
