The most senior commander of the United States military in the Middle East, Admiral Brad Cooper, briefed President Donald Trump last night (Thursday) about options for military action against Iran.

This was the first time that the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) briefed Trump since the beginning of the crisis with Iran last December.

An Iranian source involved in negotiations with the US told CNN that there was no significant breakthrough in the talks, but there were signs of progress.

Tehran insists that it will continue to enrich uranium within the country, and under IAEA supervision. The same source added that the talks are serious and Tehran has confirmed that it will never possess nuclear weapons.

However, the same source noted that the lifting of US and UN Security Council sanctions are key points to any agreement, and that no nuclear equipment or site, which is already under international supervision, will be destroyed. The source also said that the enriched material will not be transferred outside of Iran.

US Vice President J.D. Vance said in an interview with the Washington Post tonight that there is no chance that the US will be drawn into a long-term war in the Middle East. Vance noted that he does not yet know how President Trump will decide to act, but emphasized that if he decides to attack Iran, there will be no fear of getting involved in a protracted war as happened in Iraq.

""The idea that we're going to be in a Middle East war for years - there's no way that's going to happen," Vance said.

The vice president also noted that he himself remains skeptical about military intervention in foreign countries and that he believes President Trump feels the same way. "I think we all prefer the diplomatic option, but it depends on what the Iranians do and what they say.".

US suicide drones

According to a report in Bloomberg, a unit of "suicide" drones in the US military is ready for action if and when US President Trump orders an attack on Iran. The unit is called Task Force Scorpion, and the drones are supposed to operate in a one-way fashion, similar to the Iranian-made Shahid drones.

Meanwhile, the US Navy rejects claims of a malfunction on the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford, which is making its way to Haifa Port.
According to the US Navy's statement on the alleged malfunction of the ship's sewage system, during their long deployment away from home port, millions of uses of the sanitation system were handled, and spot blockages are quickly addressed by maintenance teams without affecting operational capability.

Regarding the last 4 days of docking in Crete before sailing to the Israeli coast, it was written: "The aircraft carrier completed a docking at the port of Souda Bay in Crete for the purpose of replenishing routine supplies of food, fuel and ammunition. While in port, the sailors were given the opportunity to rest and enjoy recreational activities on the island - which provided a significant boost to morale.".
