Reports of former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar's intention to establish a 'school for political leadership' in collaboration with Reichman University have drawn widespread anger among bereaved families.
Itzik Buntzel, the father of Amit Yad who fell in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, sent an open and particularly harsh letter to the bar, in which he directly accuses him of responsibility for the October 7th failure and speaks out against his attempt to become an educational figure.
In the letter, Buntzel recounts a meeting with Bar.
""I sat with you in the office at the Shin Bet facility in Tel Aviv, when you were still trying to sell me in beautiful words that you 'took responsibility.' Even then, I realized that you don't have a God. I realized that you don't see blood, you only see the next job, the dirty way to clear your conscience at the expense of our children's graves.".
According to him, "While we are languishing in cemeteries, you are already building the next 'exit' for yourself. While the blood of our children is still boiling in the ground, you dare, with devilish audacity, to establish a school for political leadership. You, who abandoned an entire nation to massacre, rape, and destruction - dare to educate?".
He continues, wondering what values will be inherited in that institution: "What Torah will hit them? How to sleep on guard when the enemy is on the fences? How to turn the blood of heroes into a springboard for a career?".
The bereaved father concludes with a warning that he will not allow the memory of the fallen to be forgotten or turned into a political tool: "We will not remain silent. We will not allow your quota of words to turn our disaster into a 'curriculum.' As long as I live, I will be there to remind every student and every institution that will give you a platform: This teacher is the man who abandoned thousands of Jews to die.".
He signed: "Itzik Buntzel, father of the late Amit Buntzel – an Israeli hero who was killed because of your negligence.".
