During a professional tour by the CEO of the Israel Electric Corporation, Meir Spiegler, and the head of the Samaria Council, Yossi Dagan, two veteran employees of the Israel Electric Corporation joined them, who carried with them a painful memory: they were the ones who, by virtue of their duties, were forced to take down the sign and cut off the electricity supply to the settlement of Sha-Nur during the expulsion about 20 years ago.
Now, with the decision to renew the settlement and connect the settlement to a permanent and institutionalized electricity infrastructure this March, it was agreed that those same workers will be allowed to re-erect the shelter along with Spiegler and Dagan.
Meir Spiegler, CEO of the Israel Electric Corporation: "Today I feel a personal and national closing of a circle, with a good gut feeling and great collective pride. We are very proud of our work. Where there is light, there is security. We turned off the electricity here 20 years ago, and today we are restoring it and continuing to build the community.".
""To the families who have waited 20 years, I say: Soon you will have light in your home. I am proud of our employees, those who work in the field every day throughout Judea and Samaria and provide excellent service to the residents. We will bring the animals and the light back here, and everyone will come to enjoy this amazing place. Yossi, congratulations on what you are doing, we are with you and have your full support.".
Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Council, said: "We stand here at a moment when it is difficult to explain in words the power of historical justice. To see the two dear employees of the electric company, who with tearful eyes were forced to take down the sign here 20 years ago as part of the criminal expulsion, standing here today preparing the infrastructure for reconnection - it is a closing of a circle that shakes the heart.".
""I am here as a Jew, as a resident of Sha-Nur and as the head of the council, excited to see how we are correcting this distortion of values. We promised that as long as we breathe, we would do everything to return and rebuild this settlement, and today we are taking a practical and dramatic step to realize this promise. We are returning not only the physical light to the homes of the families in Sha-Nur, but the light to Zionism as a whole. Where there is settlement, there is security, and today we are returning security and pride to northern Samaria.".
Amir Elyakim, head of the Ariel team, an employee of the electricity company: "This is closing a circle. We turned off the electricity here 20 years ago, and we are restoring the light and continuing the settlement again. To the families who waited 20 years, I say: Soon you will be here again and you will have light in your home.""
Shalom Bohbot, an employee of the electric company: "We will return to provide light here, and we will all come and enjoy this amazing place. Pride, and all the best Yossi for what you do. We are with you, and certainly with the backing that the CEO gives us to come and provide service. In the end, it's the employees - they are the ones who work in the field and we are fully proud of them.""
