A coalition crisis broke out in the Knesset last night (Thursday) after the Haredi factions refused to vote in favor of splitting the Arrangements Law - due to the ongoing delays in advancing the draft law.
Following the move, the coalition was forced to postpone the vote until next Monday, to allow additional time for mediation and understanding between the parties on the continuation of the legislation.
This means a three-day delay in discussions on the state budget.
According to a report on Channel I24, since last Thursday, no meetings have been held with the legal advice of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee to continue drafting the final draft of the draft law.
Because of this, Aryeh Deri and Moshe Gafni made a joint decision as early as noon to stall the continuation of the budget legislation process. However, it was only towards the opening of the plenary session that the Haredim informed the coalition chairman that they did not intend to vote in the plenary session on the continuation of the Arrangements Law process.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and Finance Minister Smotrich tried to put pressure on the Haredim - and Smotrich even threatened: "Leave me alone, dissolve the Knesset and let's go to the elections.".
At the end of the night, it was decided, as mentioned, to postpone the vote and try to reach a compromise in the coming days.
The Arrangements Law includes a long list of reforms, some of which require splitting and separate approval in the Knesset plenum in order to continue their discussion in committees, a process that, as mentioned, is currently delayed.
The delay undermines the stability of the coalition, as failure to pass a budget by the end of March will lead to the dissolution of the Knesset.
