National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir decided to prevent the police from using stun guns that use stun and gas - after it became clear that the police were using the tool selectively.
In the past 24 hours, several senior police officials have contacted the minister's office, in an attempt to convince him to instruct the chairwoman of the Knesset's National Security Committee, MK Zvika Fogel of Otzma Yehudit, to continue allowing the use of the Makhtazeit.
Similar attempts at persuasion were also directed at MK Fogel, when several senior police officers tried to put pressure on him, but Minister Ben Gvir responded that he refused to try to change MK Fogel's position - especially after it became clear that in most cases the "machtziyat" and "skunk" were used against Haredim and settlers.
Sources in Minister Ben Gvir's office say: "With all the minister's love for the police, the minister is signaling a no to selective enforcement. He is giving them more and more tools, but when it comes to a tool with selective enforcement, which is only applied to Haredim and settlers,
"The minister will not agree to the use of this tool.".
