On behalf of the Shas chairman: MK Yaakov Margi arrived yesterday at the family home of 'Torah life prisoner', the young man Yair Saada from Beer Sheva, after he was brutally arrested by police and imprisoned in a military prison for the crime of studying Torah.

MK Margi spoke with his parents and strengthened their spirits, conveying a clear message of encouragement, reinforcement and support on behalf of the Shas movement and its representatives. "I have come to strengthen your hands and tell you - the entire Shas movement stands by your side and works tirelessly, under the direction of the Council of Torah Scholars, to preserve the status of Torah scholars," said MK Margi.

During the visit, the parents recounted the moments of the brutal arrest, which caused deep shock and dismay among the family members.

The father, Moshe Saada, a disabled IDF soldier who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and treats post-traumatic soldiers within the framework of the "Warrior's Home" in Beer Sheva, expressed his great pain in light of the scandalous conduct of the military police.

The father said that his son called him from the yeshiva, said he wasn't feeling well - and the father drove him home. "He went to bed to sleep and I had already gone to bed too. Suddenly, near midnight, there was a knock on the door, the girls peeked through the peephole, but they blocked the peephole, my wife asked who was there, and they answered 'police.' She panicked, and opened the door, and dozens of military police officers came in, I estimate about 30 police officers.".

He added that he woke up in a panic, which was very difficult for him due to post-traumatic stress disorder. The police wanted to handcuff the young man - and the father had to beg them not to do so. The father also said that an officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel who also participated in the arrest process behaved rudely and brutally towards the young man and the family members.

Moshe Saada said in a broken voice: "I am very hurt by this, very broken, how can it be that this is how a Torah scholar is treated in the State of Israel? To bring in dozens of military police? For what? Just a yeshiva student. I am a disabled IDF soldier, we are not people of quarrels and demonstrations, but it is very difficult for me. This is how you treat a sick person? You see that he is sick, with a fever, so why behave like this?".

The mother also spoke of the shock and pain she felt following the predatory arrest of her son - who devotes all his time to studying Torah - and expressed her deep sorrow over the persecution of Torah scholars in the Land of Israel.
